On March 18th, 2017, Michael and I adopted our first cat!

When we arrived we already had a cat in mind because we have volunteered at the rescue before and developed feelings for a certain cat. Whenever we came to the rescue to help clean and give attention to the cats, she would always follow us around and take naps on our laps. We don't know whether she was abandoned, dropped off or living on her own in the wild, but she has such a sweet and playful soul. She had been at the shelter for three years before Michael and I took her to a loving home.

When she first arrived she was nearly hairless because she had fleas, and she was actually allergic to the fleas she had so what ever hair the fleas didn't get off she would lick and scratch off. At the time her tail was completely broken as well, it was so bad that the vet was considering amputating it off because she had no feeling in it, and it was just cold and being dragged behind her. But then all of a sudden her feeling came back! Her tongue has some problems as well, they are unsure how, but her tongue is shredded and has scar tissue. They do have a theory that she bit on her tongue when her tail was broken some how. Michael and I didn't know any of this until we were signing the papers and our love for her grew so much more!

Also her Birthday is March 17th, just like mine! She was born in 2013 and I was born in 1999. She's been spayed, micro-chipped and is up to date with her vaccines and medication. She was very curious on the drive back home because she is a indoor cat and the outside world is something she is unfamiliar with. When we brought her home we showed her where the litter box, food and rooms were. Then maybe an hour later Tiger came home, we set them both up in my room to introduce themselves to each other and just like we thought would happen, they began to hiss and growl. Things have improved since then but they still hiss and growl when one gets too close to the other and they keep their distance.

Mia loves to be in the showers/bath and drink the left over water, I even turned on a sink to see if she would drink it and she did! Whenever Michael or I sit down almost every time she will hop up no one of our laps and instantly purr as well as "knead bread". In the mornings Mia will be the one to wake me up (not my alarm) because she sleeps with me at night but at a certain hour she will wake up, crawl onto my chest and "knead bread" until she passes out and completely lies down on me. At this point she has woken me up and I try to get up, but how can I? She's too adorable! So I'll take half an hour in the morning just petting her and trying to get up slowly.

The reason why Michael and I want to call her Mia is because on her official papers her previous owners named her Mia. For some reason that name really sticks out and we really like it. Serenity was her name at the cat rescue. Thus Mia will be her name and Serenity will be her formal name.

Besides cuddling and sleeping all day she really loves to play with shoe laces. I have some shoe laces that I just never used so I've made them her toys until Michael and I can go out to Meijer this weekend to pick up more litter, toys, carrier and a scratching post.

If you are ever looking for a place to adopt a cat, we highly recommend "Here Kitty Kitty", there are a no kill cat shelter which I find to be one of my favorite things about them. They can hold up to 50 cats so you really do have a wide range of options. They have kittens, teenagers, adults and oldies depending on your preference. The owners are super nice too! Be sure to like/follow them on Facebook to see their newest cats.

Michael and I do plan on taking her with us to Dayton Ohio to our soon to be new home but we are not sure about Tiger yet (my family wants to keep him too) so if we can't take him, we will adopt a second cat! Here's a slideshow of our new family member, enjoy!
